Put your best face on
Makeup is so much fun. I absolutely love it. Being in the theatre world most of my life, I know the magic and transformation that can be created with your face as the blank canvas and you the artist. Who do you want to be today? Whomever you want, my dear.
From giving my friends at school gross scars on their faces during recess as a youngster to fabulozo, over the top drag glam on stage and photoshoot artism in my business career - Makeup is a wonderland for me that never bores.
Since I have done my own makeup for almost 25 years, I am my own expert, so when I decided to hire a makeup artist for my wedding it was with a lot of after-thought. I mean, who knows my face better than myself?
I fell for the norm of having someone else doing my makeup and came to deeply regret that choice.
Finding a makeup artist is easy, finding a good one... well, I trusted the reviews, the persons' education and highlights from their career. But when I was done and all dolled up, I looked like crap... I did not even look like me. Cakey and with uneven eyebrows, I started sinking into myself:
"I will pay 400 Eur for this face on my wedding day".
"How do you like it", she asked me?
"Yes, how do I like it? Not at all, do I like it", my inner me said. But I could not say that to her... I am Swedish... If you don´t like something you cannot say that to the person. No, you need to grin your teeth and say you love it, no matter the blazing inferno that is going on inside you. So, that is what I did. I said she nailed it, thanked her, paid my due and left.
Confrontation is something we Swedes don´t want to go near for whatever reason... it makes us itchy and squirmy and we run for the hills before going anywhere near it.
Due to this fear, an unwritten law was created a long time ago, in order for us to handle all this, to help us stay away from this icky goo. Most people know this law and far too many have this indoctrinated within them from birth.
This law is called "Jantelagen" (the law of Jante) - and it tells you you must NOT think highly of yourself... you are unworthy and should not do things out of the ordinary, be a bother, be ambitious or aim for success (and if you are and have all these, you can absolutely under no circumstances talk about it).
So, when I sat there in the makeup chair, being asked "if I like it"... well, she might just as well have held me at gunpoint, slowly nodding her head, forming the word Y.E.S with her mouth. I did what any swede would have done in my situation, I lied my head blue... to save myself.
After this, or should I say, thanks to this, I will now be my own artist, the grand designer of me and to be honest... I so much prefer it this way. No putting my face in other peoples hands, just me putting MY bet face on.
The colour scheme will go hand in hand with the summer month - gold, copper, pink and coral.
I have stashed the lashes, sprays, cremes and brushes to make my snout ready for the red carpet... and for tears, sweat, sun, kisses and an eventual food fight.
Below, are products I absolutely love and rely on that are a must in my bag... and of course everything is cruelty free.
Prep, is key to any makeup. Your skin needs cleansing, moisture and protection.

On to the make-up... Classic bridal makeup is far too much for my taste. I want a natural glow with focus on Bambi, flirting lashes, so flawless skin is priority nr 1. Of course, for the evening you can go more drama (and I will go there). No matter what face you want to put on, it is all about that base:
