In 1840,  Queen Victoria chose to break fashion law, to not wear the traditional coronation robes when she married her cousin, Prince Albert... Instead, she chose (listen to this). she chose to wear a white dress. It was all over the newspapers around the world, a sensation. She was the top celebrity at the time and women just had to have her look and has been copied ever since. The colour white ha d upon this point represented virginity and purity but after the queens' coup, white now came to symbolize  wealth and status, and who does not want to look like a million bucks on their wedding day?
